What is Foundation Yoga?

In the world of Yoga, there are many traditions and paths to choose from. Foundation Yoga is the first part of yoga that any yogi should begin with. It focuses on basic positions, body alignment, breathwork and mindfulness. These are the fundamental practices you learn that ensure that, later on, more challenging yoga is done safely. Yoga is a powerful form of exercise as it helps to train the body and mind by helping you focus on the dynamics of both together.

What are the benefits of Foundation Yoga?

PHYSICAL

  • Releasing tension through stretches and postures for full-body relaxation.
  • Improved flexibility.
  • Improved balance and stability.
  • Building physical strength through full-body and targeted muscle group exercises.
  • Helps prevent injuries through body awareness and alignment of posture.

Mental

  • Breath awareness allows you to understand the importance of breathing to calm your nervous system.
  • A step towards inner calm as you breathe and move your body, releasing happy hormones like endorphins.
  • Yoga can provide deep relaxation as well as be challenging to help you build strength, creating a greater sense of well-being for body and mind.
